HI, I AM ROXANNE

I’ve spent the past 10 years leading a small-to-midsize 501(c)(3) animal shelter in Florida, working under multiple government contracts and alongside police officers, animal control, and the public. It’s not easy work, but it’s where I’ve found my purpose. I’ve seen the pressure shelter leaders are under, and I know how isolating and overwhelming it can feel when you’re trying to do everything right with limited time, staff, and resources.

With a background in public relations and a passion for practical problem-solving, I launched The Shelter Shift to challenge broken systems, advocate for shelter professionals, and share real-world tools that make a difference. I believe in leading by example, whether that’s rolling up my sleeves at my shelter or visiting others around the country (yes, even on vacation) to learn, connect, and grow.

I’m also a proud member of FACA and the Association for Animal Welfare Advancement. We operate a Fear Free Shelter.

The Shelter Shift isn’t just a project; it’s a mission to transform the way we operate shelters and the way the world perceives rescue. If you’re here, you likely feel the same way. And I’m so glad you’re part of it.
